Biography
Anwar Maqsood is Pakistan's foremost satirist — a writer whose wit has been both a mirror and a conscience for the nation across a remarkable six-decade career. His work on Fifty Fifty, Angan Terha, Alif Noon, and Sona Chandi defined comedy on PTV and elevated it to the level of genuine social commentary. The best of his writing manages to be simultaneously laugh-out-loud funny and quietly devastating in its observations about class, bureaucracy, and the enduring absurdities of Pakistani public life. His stage productions, including Pawnay 14 August and Sawa 14 August, are considered landmarks of Urdu theatre. Still writing and performing well into his eighties, Anwar Maqsood remains one of the most original and necessary voices in Pakistani culture.
