Biography

Amjad Islam Amjad is one of Pakistan's most celebrated poets and dramatists, a writer whose lyrical sensibility profoundly shaped the emotional register of PTV drama in the 1970s and 1980s. His scripts for Waris, Marvi, and numerous other productions brought a poetic economy to the dialogue of Pakistani television that was entirely his own — lines that carried the weight of verse without ever feeling theatrical or overstated. As a poet, his ghazals and nazms are recited across the subcontinent, and his contributions to Urdu literature have earned him the Pride of Performance and numerous other national honours. The combination of literary depth and popular accessibility that defines his best work remains a model for writers across the Pakistani arts.
