Biography
Abid Ali was one of the most commanding and distinctive presences in the history of Pakistani screen acting — a performer of raw intensity whose work across film and television left an impression that outlasted his time. Born in Quetta in 1952, he began his career at Radio Pakistan before making his way to Lahore and establishing himself as a leading man of considerable dramatic force. His role as Dilawar Khan in Amjad Islam Amjad's landmark drama Waris (1979) is among the most celebrated performances in Pakistani television history — a portrait of loyalty, honour, and masculine dignity that resonated deeply with audiences across the country. He later proved his versatility behind the camera, directing Dasht (1993), which became not only a hit production but the first privately produced drama serial in Pakistan's history. His daughter Iman Ali followed him into the entertainment industry and became one of Pakistan's most prominent models and actresses. Abid Ali passed away in September 2019, leaving behind a body of work that defines what Pakistani screen performance at its finest can be.
